The
U.S. is the most overfed undernourished country in the world!
What! That statement doesn't make much sense. Well let
me explain what I mean, by asking you a question.
Did you know
that in 1901, the U.S. was classified as the healthiest nation in
the world among one hundred nations studied. By 1920, we were
in second place. By 1950, we were in third place. By 1970,
we were in forty-first place and in 1981, we were in ninety-fifth
place. How did our country go from being the
healthiest country in the world to ninety-fifth place?
The answer: Fast Foods!
The typical American now
consumes at least three hamburgers and four orders of French
fries every week and the reason fast food is such a success is
because it's fast.
Because we now function at such
a fast pace, we require a food that can keep up with us.
People feel they are too busy to cook traditional meals anymore
and if they do cook their meals they use processed, prepared
foods (because they're faster to prepare) which really has little
nutritional value. Also for some people it's cheaper to pay
$2.00 and choose something from (the McValue Menu) than to visit the
grocery store. T.V. commericials also entice adults to
purchase fast foods, while the toys in the kid's meals entice
our children.
Our children only had to get one
kid's meal with a toy and now everytime we pass by a McDonald's they
shout, "Ma, We wanna get a kids meal!"
Excessive
use of fast foods and processed foods are killing our nation.
They are filled with sugar, salt, fat and an abundance of food
additives. When you combine these foods with an already
unhealthy consumption of meats and dairy products you can't help
but to expect health problems.
Nearly 1 in 4 children
are overweight or obese and developing Type II diabetes which has
been proven to be directly related to dietary choices. American
adults are either significantly overweight or morbidly obese.
I remember hearing the testimony of a woman recently who was
visiting our country. She explained that in her country she
was accustomed to eating more vegetables, fruits, nuts, fish etc.
and how people in her country were very seldom sick.
